Computers My name is David Draper, owner of Classic Computer Sales & Service, Muskegon, MI. We have been in business at the same location for 6 years. Classic Computer Sales does not sell new named brand (HP, Dell) computers. We build the computers using the parts we feel are the best on the market. All of our NEW Custom Built computers come with a Windows disc and the COA sticker. Whether new or used the COA sticker should match the Operating system installed on the computer. If you are having a window pop up in the lower right hand corner saying you may have an illegal copy of windows, you probably do.
There is one technician who does the virus removal and part replacement. He is Chris Draper, self taught and the best technician in the West Michigan area servicing PC (Towers) and laptops.
Computers have become smaller, faster, and portable. They can be a help in finding information from A Z. You can book airline flights, reserve hotel rooms, rent a car, check your bank account, pay bills, and check your email from anyone around the world. Also used for taking an online class from colleges. They have become as much of a part of our lives such as the car and cell phone.
Computers can become unstable with a virus or spy ware, and even someone trying to get into your computer to obtain personal information. Never open an email or click on an attachment or link from someone you do not know. Anti Virus programs are helpful, but in my opinion NO antivirus program is perfect in what it is supposed to do. Never install more than one antivirus program on you PC. It may cause them to conflict with each other and cause your computer to be slow or not boot up at all. I am not saying you dont need them, but choose them wisely. Most programs update daily.
Computers have components in them that make them function:
Power Supply This is a device the power cord plugs into. These can become defective and is one of the reasons that will cause your computer not to turn on.
Motherboard All computer components are attached to this and is one of the more expensive parts to replace and install. Sometimes may depend on age of computer to determine if it may be worth the price of replacement. This component can cause your computer not to turn on.
Hard Drive - This device is for storage. All programs, your computers operating system (Windows XP, Vista, or the newest version of Windows 7) is stored here, pictures and music you download from the internet or your camera are also stored here.
CD Drive/Burner/DVD burner/DVD Player These use a disc to play movies, music and pictures or install software for your printer. It can be used to save (burn) your files too. Or another words you can back up those precious pictures of your grandchildren, children and other non replaceable photos you may have taken or received in an email. You can use it to save the resume you have put together to help in getting your next job. This is especially important for businesses to do this. It is important to back up any of these because a hard drive can become defective. Sometimes it is not possible to recover them unless you send it in to a hard drive recovery company who may charge up to a $1,000 or more to have it recovered. There are other ways to back up information and this is just one of them.
Keyboard For typing information. They come corded or Wireless.
Mouse You move it around the screen and click on links or place your cursor in areas of a paper you are typing. As I have been doing typing this article.
Card Readers Can be used to download your pictures to your computer from your digital camera. Most newer computers come with one.
Most ethernet, sound, and video ports are integrated into the motherboard and are not a separate card connected to it using a PCI slot as computers in the past.
Monitor Looks like a TV. This displays what is on the computer. They have become larger in screen size, but lighter taking up less space on your computer desk.
You need an Operating system (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, or Linux) to access your computer. If you should purchase a replacement hard drive for your computer, the Operating system does not come preinstalled on the Hard Drive. It must be installed using a disc.
Microsoft Office does not come with Windows. It is a separate program you must purchase. Some computers come with a trial version and usually expire after 60 days.
I thank you for reading this article. It is a very brief description of computers and what they do and what you can do with them.
